Privacy Policy

Without an account: your puzzle progress, streaks and settings are kept in your own browser. Our records hold only an anonymous reader id — a random string — together with anonymous events such as "this game was completed", so we can tell whether a puzzle was too easy or broken. None of it identifies you.

With an account: if you choose to create one, we hold your email address and a copy of your puzzle progress, so your record survives a new device. Sign-in is by one-time magic link or Google.

If you write to us: letters, difficulty notes and puzzle reports are kept so the newsroom can fix things. Send only what you're happy for us to read.

If you join the mailing list: we keep your email address to send announcements, such as the Extra Edition, from post-office@thelittledaily.com.

No advertising. No third-party ad trackers. No profiling. No selling or sharing of personal information with anyone outside the small set of suppliers who make the paper exist (hosting, email delivery and error reporting), who may only use it for that job.

The paper uses your browser's local storage — not third-party cookies — to remember your reader id, progress and preferences. Clearing your browser storage wipes this record on your side.

Anonymous puzzle records and analytics are kept only as long as they are useful, and are thinned out as they age. Account records and correspondence are kept until you ask us to remove them.

If you are in the EU/EEA or the UK you have the right to see, correct or delete the personal data we hold about you, to object to or limit our use of it, and to lodge a complaint with your data protection authority. To use any of these rights, write to post-office@thelittledaily.com and we will answer as quickly as the presses allow.

The paper is written for everyone, but accounts aren't offered to children under 13. A child may of course play without one.

If this policy changes, the new version is printed here with a fresh date. Material changes will be announced in the paper itself.
